With over 50 years combined business experience, with one specializing in marketing, sales, and business development at leading firms including Procter & Gamble, Gillette, and 20th Century Fox, and the other having spent almost a decade as a licensed contractor founding, operating, and growing a successful painting company, the creators of PRISONFIT are survivors of the prison experience. One has lost 45 pounds, the other studies nutrition, fitness, and leads yard workouts, and together they have taught and mentored hundreds of inmates in learning about business, obtaining their GED, and planning and assessing their post-prison opportunities and prospects.
The partners developed the idea behind PRISONFIT when they realized how few resources, activities, and quality programming and fitness equipment the prison offered. Further reinforcing the need for PRISONFIT was seeing the poor quality of food served at chow and available from the commissary store list...food full of calories, carbohydrates, fats, preservatives, and artificial ingredients. On top of that, exercise and recipe books never seemed to be written in a way that was practical for inmates to actually follow and perform; a hypothesis that the partners - through research - soon determined was a fact based on surveys involving hundreds of inmates.
And so, the idea of the PRISONFIT brand was born...programs and products for all inmates, parolees, and other individuals who want to improve their overall health and well-being, using inmates who are workout leaders and role models to design and author books, performing as much PRISONFIT work with inmate workers as possible, and providing training and employment opportunities once released. These are the components that, when combined, encourage and support a better life for individuals both in and out of prison.
